Introduction
The word โchivvyโ means to tell someone do something repeatedly. In this poem, a child describes his hate for the grown-ups (elders) because they keep throwing advices to the children. This behaviour of elders irritates the children. The poem is written in a single long stanza. However I have divided it into two parts for better understanding.

Part 1
Grown-ups say things like: Speak up Donโt talk with your mouth full Donโt stare Donโt point Donโt pick your nose Sit up Say please Less noise Shut the door behind you Donโt drag your feet Havenโt you got a hankie?
The child says that grown-ups (elders) keep saying things like โspeak upโ, โdonโt talk while you are eatingโ, โdonโt stare at othersโ, โdonโt point fingers at othersโ, โdonโt put your finger in noseโ, โsitโ, โtalkโ, โdonโt make nouseโ, โshut the doorโ, โdonโt drag your feetโ, โwhy donโt you have your hankie?โ.
Part 2
Take your hands out of your pockets Pull your socks up Stand up straight Say thank you Donโt interrupt No one thinks youโre funny Take your elbows off the table Canโt you make your own mind up about anything?
Elders further say, โtake your hands out of your pocketsโ, โpull your socks upโ, โstand up straightโ, โsay, thank youโ, โdonโt interruptโ, โno one thinks you are funnyโ, โtake your elbows off the tableโ and so on.
The child asks them rhetorically, canโt they do these things by themselves and leave them (children) alone and donโt chivvy all the time.
