William Shakespeare, The bard of Avon was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford-on-Avon, just north of London. This birthday is still celebrated in Great Britain as Shakespeare Day.
In 1582, at the age of 18, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. He had three children, Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith.

Shakespeare and his family moved to London, where some of his plays were performed. Shakespeare married again in 1604, to a young woman named Anne Hathaway. He went on to write many plays and poems. Shakespeare died in 1616 at the age of 52, but his plays are still popular today.
