Faith and Good Deeds in Islam

ASSALAM O ALAIKUM!

Today, I am going to explain some of the basic & important terms regarding our actions and deeds.

* Farz (???)
* Wajib (????)
* Sunnat (???)
* Mustahab (?????)
* Makruh (?????)
* Haraam (????)

A) WHAT IS FARZ (INCUMBENT)?

Farz is something which should be performed at any cost. In Islam it is incumbent. It should be done at its earliest without any excuse. Omitting Farz is Haraam (forbidden) in Islam. One who omits a Farz is sinful & will have to reside in Hell.

Farz is of two types:
* Farz-e-Aine (??? ???).
* Farz-e-Kfaya (??? ?????).

FARZ-E-AINE:
It is a type of Farz that is must on every person to accomplish it. Every believer has to accomplish Farz-e-Aine.
E.g. ยค Offering prayers 5 times a day.
ยค Performing Hajj once in the life.
ยค Reciting Darood once in the life etc.

FARZ-E-KFAYA:
It is a type of Farz that if performed by one person will be assumed to be accomplished by all the members of his community. If nobody (from a community) accomplishes the Farz-e-Kafaya, every individual of that community will be sinful.
E.g. Offering Nimaz-e-Janaza.

B) WHAT IS WAJIB (OBLIGATORY)?

Wajib (????) in Islam is a task which is nearly equal to the status of Farz. It is also to be accomplished without any excuse. Its omittion is Makruh-e-Tehreemi.
E.g. Offering Wajibs of Isha.

C) WHAT IS SUNNAT (SUNNAH)?

It is also important to be accomplished, but the importance of its accomplishment is less as compared to that of Farz & Wajib. But it does not mean that it should be omitted.

Sunnat can be divided into four types.
* Sunnat-e-Aine (??? ???)
* Sunnat-e-Kafaya(??? ?????)
* Sunnat-e-Movaqqida(??? ?????)
* Sunnat-e-Gair Movaqqida(??? ??? ?????)

1. SUNNAT-E-AINE:
Like Farz-e-Aine, it it is important to be accomplished by every believer (Momin) on his own. Omitting of Sunnat-e-Aine is sinful, & one doing so will get the punishment of Allah ?????.
E.g. Offering Sunnats of Fajar.

2. SUNNAT-E-KFAYA:
Like Farz-e-Kfaya, if one individual (of a community or group) accomplishes it, that will be assumed to be accomplished by the whole community or group. If nobody (of the community or group) accomplishes it, all of them will be sinful

E.g. ยค In Masjid, if a person answers the Salaam of the one entering the Masjid, will be assumed to be done by all the men present there. If nobody answers, all will be sinful.
ยค If one person does Aitikaf in Ramzan, it will be the Kafaya of all the individuals of that community etc.

3. SUNNAT-E-MOVAQQIDA: Its accomplishment is necessary. Omitting Sunnat-e-Movaqqida will be Haraam.

E.g. Sunnats of Fajar or Zohor Prayers

4. SUNNAT-E-GAIR MOVAIQQIDA:
Its accomplishment is not important. If it is performed, it will be bounty, if omitted, there will be no sin.

D) WHAT IS MUSTAHAB?

It is less important than Sunnat-e-Gair Muvaqqida. Its accomplishment is good & omission will not be sinful.

E.g. ยค Offering Farz of Fajar Nimaz late.
ยค Reciting โ€œPrayer is better than sleep (translation)โ€ two times in Azan of Fajar.

E) WHAT IS MAKRUH?

It refers to a bad action. Makruh can be divided into two types.
* Makruh-e-Tehreemi (????? ??????)
* Makruh-e-Tanzihi(????? ??????)

1. MAKRUH-E-TEHREEMI:
It is near to haraam. Omittion of Wajib is Makruh-e-Tehreemi. A person who commits Makruh-e-Tehrimi is sinful and deserves punishment in Hell.
E.g. Omitting Wajibs of Isha.

2. MAKRUH-E-TANZIHI:
It signifies something that is close to lawful(halal) acts or an act that is better for us not to do it than to do it.

E.g. it is Makruh-e-Tanzihi not to do Sunnat-e-Gair Muvaqqida or Mustahab acts.

F) WHAT IS HARAAM (FORBIDDEN)?

It is the gravest & nasty act. Its punishment is severe than any of other Sins.
E.g. Adultery, omitting Farz, etc.

INTERESTING INFORMATION

> Omitting of Farz is Haraam & vice versa.

> Omitting of Wajib (or sometimes Sunnat-e-Movaqqida) is Makruh-e-Tehreemi & vice versa.

> Omitting of Sunnat-e-Gair Movaqqida or Mustahab is Makruh-e-Tanzihi & vice versa.

> If the word makruh is
used alone, it signifies Makruh-e-Tehrimi

> Juma prayer is Farz-e-Aine & its Qaza is Haraam.

Any mistake on my part, if found, may please be forgiven.
