Good morning to one and all present here. Today, I’ll be giving a small speech on the topic ‘FOMO’.
FOMO is a term that each one of us will have come across in social media posts. What exactly is this FOMO?
FOMO is nothing but the acronym for ‘Fear of Missing Out’. It is a manifestation of peer pressure.
Whether or not FOMO was a real issue was much debated for a time period. However, now, with the advent of social media, FOMO has morphed into becoming a major social issue. Teens and youth are constantly plagued by this anxiety of not keeping up with whatever is in the ‘trend’ at the moment and not being viewed as ‘cool’ amongst peers.
FOMO results in self-doubt and self-consciousness. It has resulted in people developing stress and forming low self-esteem as to not being a part of mainstream culture, be it music, celebrity life, or movies and shows.
We must take a step back from social media and concentrate on healthy social lives instead.
