Google defines the term ‘monsoon’ to be “a seasonal prevailing wind in the region of South and SE Asia, blowing from the south-west between May and September and bringing rain (the wet monsoon ), or from the north-east between October and April (the dry monsoon ).” Thus, the rainy season accompanying the wet monsoon is termed as monsoon season.
In India, the monsoon season is very important as it boosts agriculture, the largest livelihood providing sector across the country. In fact, the whole agriculture of the country depends on the monsoons, which replenish the groundwater level and the water reservoirs.
