According to the ACRL standards, an information-literate individual is able to ‘evaluate information and its sources critically, incorporate selected information into one’s knowledge base, and use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose.’
Thus, an information-literate individual is someone who possesses the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use information from a variety of sources. Being information literate is an essential skill in today’s digital age, where we are bombarded with an overwhelming amount of information on a daily basis. After all, they do say that ‘Information is Power’!
