A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I’ll be giving a short speech on the topic of the importance of friendship.
Before looking at what friendship means and why it is important in one’s life, it is important to understand who a friend is. Google defines a friend to be “a person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations.” Indeed, friendship is thus a platonic bond where one shares a sense of companionship and camaraderie with their friends.
Friendship, in this sense, becomes very important in one’s life. Francis Bacon in his essay “On Friendship” states: “For friendship maketh indeed a fair day in the affections, from storm and tempests; but it maketh daylight in the understanding, out of darkness, and confusion of thoughts.” Friendship is thus crucial as it is a friend whom we rely upon and confide in, whom we trust and love unconditionally.
