A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of ’Mother Earth’.
Earth, the planet on which we live, is bestowed with the title of ‘Mother’ as it nurtures us and provides for us. Be it humans, animals, birds, or any other living thing, Earth provides every basic necessity it requires for its sustenance- right from food, water, air, and shelter.
Mythologies, for this very fact, hail Nature, and by extension, the Earth, as ‘Mother’. In Greece, she is Gaia while in Rome, she is ‘Terra Mater’. In India, she is Bhuma Devi, the one who bears us and takes care of us.
The concept of Earth being compared to a Mother is thus very symbolic of her nurturing nature and also the need for us to respect and worship her.
‘Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed’, said Gandhi. Let’s not exploit Mother Earth and care for her!
