Dear Sweta, I hope you and your family are in good health and are happy. How did you spend this summer vacation? I travelled to Kolkata, West Bengal, to spend the summer with my aunt’s family. My aunt lives in Kolkata with her husband and children. I was fascinated by the festivals in West Bengal. The most important festival in west Bengal is Durga Pooja, which is celebrated like Navaratri or Dusera. Other festivals include Poila Baishaka, Charak Pooja, Eid, Christmas, Chhath Pooja, etc. I got glimpses of Poila Baishaka. It is a festival to celebrate the Bengal new year that falls on April 14. People welcome the new year by cleaning their houses, decorating with rangoli, and offering prayers to the rising sun. I attended the Bangla Sangeet Mela, organised by the government as part of this festival, where many singers, dancers, and artists performed. I like this festival very much. I am learning about this festival for the first time.
