Have you been to Kolkata? Me and my family went to Kolkata two weeks ago. We got an invitation from my aunt Latika in Kolkata to attend a Durga Pooja celebration at their home. As a person who loves Bengali culture, it was my wish to go to Kolkata someday. Durga Puja is the biggest religious celebration in Kolkata. This celebration falls annually in the months of September or October. Goddess Durga is worshipped for ten days during this festival. Months before the festival, the idol of Durga is made by artisans using clay pulled from the Ganga River. The celebration begins when the eyes are painted on the idols. On the tenth day of the celebration, these idols are later immersed in the river. We could broadly see the culture of Kolkata during this festival. There will be public performances of art forms as well. This is a very colorful and grand event.
