How are you? We are doing well here. How was your vacation to Himachal Pradesh? I hope you had a great time there. I had to travel to Hyderabad last month to attend a family wedding function. I also had the opportunity to attend the Bonalu festival celebration. Bonalu is a festival celebrated in Telangana, mostly in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is a festival celebrated between the months of July and August. This is a festival centered around the Hindu goddess Mahakali. For this festival, rice is cooked along with milk and jaggery in an earthen pot ornamented with neem leaves and turmeric. A lamp is lit at the top of the pot. Women carry this pot to temples and offer the rice, along with bangles and a sari, to the goddess. This offering is made as a thanksgiving to the goddess. After that, the offering is served to other members in their house. There are other rituals, but I was not able to be a part of them. I enjoyed this festival.
