A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of ‘Robots’.
Wikipedia defines the term ‘robot’ to be “a machine—especially one programmable by a computer—capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically. A robot can be guided by an external control device, or the control may be embedded within.”
Google meanwhile provides a simple definition as follows: “(especially in science fiction) a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically.”
Broadly, robots can be categorized into 6 divisions. They are autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), articulated robots, humanoids, cobots, and hybrids.
Robots are one of science’s greatest inventions and are of immense use to Man. Because of the element of fascination associated with them, several science fiction movies have been and are currently being made on robots and are gaining popularity. So is robotics as a subject of study.
