A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a small speech on the topic of Labour Day.
Google defines Labour Day to be “a public holiday or day of festivities held in honour of working people, in many countries on 1 May, in the US and Canada on the first Monday in September.”
According to Wikipedia, “Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.” Historically thus, Labourers ‘ Day, also called May Day or International Workers’ Day, is a day celebrated to commemorate the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labour movement across the world in various nations.
In India too, Labour Day is observed on the 1st of May every year and is declared to be a national holiday.
Universally, the theme for Labour Day 2022 was “Universal Social Protection to End Child Labor.”
