Good morning to one and all present here. Today, I’ll be giving a small speech on the topic of ‘hope’.
Hope could mean several things to different people. Google has laid down these differences as well. Allow me to explicate on each.
The first definition put down is “a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen.” This, perhaps, is the most obvious meaning. To hope means here to aspire or desire for a goal or ambition to be actualized.
The second definition is “a person or thing that may help or save someone.” Again, hope could be taken in the sense it is the last vestige or resort for rescuing someone, both from actual physical harm or injury and also mentally, say, from bad company.
The third and final definition would be “grounds for believing that something good may happen.” Here, the phrase “hoping for things to turn for the better” comes to mind wherein hope is more like being optimistic.
