Dear Farah,

I hope you and your loved ones are happy and doing well. What about your cousin? How is he doing in London? Have you heard about the Bathukama festival? My cousin Reena, who is residing in Telangana, told me about this festival. Bathukama is a floral festival that is celebrated in Telangana and some parts of Andhra Pradesh. This festival is celebrated every year between the months of September and October. This festival is also called a celebration of feminism. It is a nine-day-long festival, where each day has a name according to the food offering made to god. In the evening, women dress up in traditional attire such as sarees and lehengas, gather in their neighbourhood with their bathukama, and sing folk songs. Bathukama is a flower stack arranged in the shape of a cone with traditional flowers, where most of the flowers are of medicinal value. At the end, women immerse this bathukama in the nearby body of water. I think this is a unique festival.

Bye

Your friend
