4 Minute Speech on Independence Day In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of ‘Independence Day’. I consider it to be my honour to deliver this speech on such a momentous occasion.

The 15th of August, for us Indians, is a no ordinary day. On this very day, in the year 1947, India earned her hard-earned independence from the tyranny of the British rule. Every year since, this day is recognized as India’s Independence day.

Wikipedia, in fact, states as follows: “Independence Day is celebrated annually on 15 August as a public holiday in India commemorating the nation’s independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947, the day when the provisions of the Indian Independence Act, which transferred legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly, came into effect.”

On this very day, colonialism and imperialism that shackled India were broken free by our fierce and patriotic freedom fighters. Be it Gandhi, Tilak, or Bose, each one of them had a crucial role in India attaining her freedom and being the way we know her to be. We are only able to breathe in the fresh air of freedom thanks to their valiant efforts.

On the 15th of August, 1947, the very first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. Every year since, on each Independence Day, the sitting Prime Minister raises the flag and gives a formal address to the nation as a whole. As per this custom, this 2022, the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the flag and address the citizens of India.

Let us all make use of this opportunity to commemorate Independence day and celebrate the freedom our freedom fighters earned for us through much pain and struggle!

Vande Mataram! Jai Hind!!

Thank you.
