Lachit Barphukan was an Ahom commander. He inspired the Assamese soldiers in the Battle of Saraighat. Lachit became Assam’s national hero after killing his uncle with a sword. “Dexot koi Mumbai Dangor Nohoi.” (My uncle is not more precious than my own country), has become a very famous and well-known phrase and quote by the only Lahit Barphukan.
In his honor, a statue has also been built at Sahityarathi Laxminath Bezbaruah Park in Dibrugarh. The spirit of patriotism of Lachit Borphukan has inspired a lot of people even today to keep the prestige and honor of their country.
