A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I’ll be giving a small speech on the topic ‘Earth Day’.
Earth Day is observed globally on the 22nd of April every year. The aim of this celebrating this day is to spread awareness about protecting and preserving the environment.
The celebration of Earth Day first began in 1970. Because, in 1969, Gaylord Nelson and a U.S. Congressperson from Wisconsin, after witnessing the waste as a result of the huge oil slick in Santa Barbara of California decided to mark a separate day to pay respect to nature and spread awareness about its conservation. The date April 22nd was chosen as it didn’t strife with any national holidays and was on a weekday when students were not having any tests and were bound to be in school.
Events such as tree planting, talks against the usage of plastic, and more are conducted on this day.
