A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I’ll be giving a small speech on the topic ‘Early Marriage’.
Early marriage is nothing but a euphemism for child marriage. UNICEF defines this as “any formal marriage or informal union between a child under the age of 18 and an adult or another child.” Any child married under this age will definitely be married by force and without their consent, making it wrong on both, moral and ethical levels.
This is a practice strictly punishable under the law. It is commonly found in parts of South Asia. Child Marriage Acts have been put forth in some countries but many still have this legalized, decreeing it to be legal to marry girls and boys as young as 12 years.
Child marriage affects children mentally. At an age where they should focus on their education and have fun, they are thrust into marriage.
Let’s put a stop to Child Marriage.
