Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends, a wonderful morning to all of you. Today on this special occasion, I would like to speak some words on the topic- Child Marriage.
Child marriage is a great societal evil that plagues India to this day. Even though the marriageable age has ben set by law, children as young as ten are married in rural areas. Child marriage deprives these children of a childhood, snatching away their dreams and binding them to marital responsibilities at an age when they should be going to school and playing with their friends. It is especially prevalent in the case of young girls, who are considered burdens to the family because of social prejudices, and thus married off as soon as possible.
However, it is our responsibility to protect these children and their childhoods, and thus we must do our best to prevent child marriage! Thank you for listening to me so attentively.
