Dear Ravi,
I hope you and your family are in good health. I also hope you had a happy time during the Dussehra holidays. This Dussehra, me, my family, and my uncle’s family went to Kerala for a short vacation. In Kerala, Dusshera is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Vidhyaarambham. This day is considered an auspicious day to start learning. On this day, children who have crossed 4 years of age will be made to scribble their first letters on a plate of raw rice using their index finger. This is a ritual that happens in most of the temples in Kerala. We also had a journey in a houseboat. We saw the beautiful backwaters here and also tasted some of the special Kerala dishes, like fish curry. What I learned from this trip is about the rich culture of our country. Dasara is celebrated all over India in different ways, and we should respect all cultures and our diversity.
