4 Minute Speech on Sports In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of ‘Sports’.

Google defines the term ‘Sport’ to be “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.”

Wikipedia offers a much more detailed explanation. It states as follows: “Sport pertains to any form of physical activity or game, often competitive and/or organized, that aims to use, maintain, or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants and, in some cases, entertainment to spectators.”

There are different types of sports that are played across the world. Predominantly, they can be classified into Individual Sports, Partner Sports, Team Sports, and Extreme or Adventure Sports.

Individual sport is a term that is self-explanatory. As the name suggests, they are played by individual players on a solo basis. Examples include Archery, Bowling, Boxing, Wrestling, and Snooker.

Partner sport involves players playing in a duo. Examples include Diving, Figure Skating, and Trampolining.

Team sports are played between two teams with multiple members. It can further be divided into 4 categories. They are Invasion Games (attacking an opponent team by invading their area, such as in football), Net Games (players being separated by a net, such as in badminton), Fielding & Striking Games (involving fielders and strikers, such as in cricket), and Target Games (targetting or aiming for a specific object and hitting it, in some cases, into a designated area, such as golf).

Action sports, adventure sports or extreme sports are sports that involve a high degree of risk, typically played for the thrill and adrenaline rush. Examples include mountain biking, zipline, paragliding, parasailing, and sky diving/parachuting.

Playing sports keeps the body healthy and fit and is proven to improve mental health as well. The most popular sport in the world is said to be soccer or association football.

Thank you.
