4 Minute Speech on Pollution In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of ‘Pollution’.

Both Google and Wikipedia alike provide excellent definitions to define the term ‘pollution’. Google states that pollution is, “the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects.”

Wikipedia, meanwhile, states that “Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse change.”

Simply put, pollution involves harming the environment by contaminating it with some kind of pollutant, often toxic in nature.

Pollution can take many forms. Broadly, pollution can be classified into air pollution, light pollution, litter, noise pollution, plastic pollution, soil contamination, radioactive contamination, thermal pollution, visual pollution, and water pollution. Here, air, water, and soil pollution are considered to be the most common forms of pollution.

Air pollution is a major issue as it leads to the rise of various health issues ranging from asthma, and bronchitis, to stroke, ischaemic heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer. Household combustion devices, motor vehicles, industrial facilities and forest fires are identified to be the common sources of air pollution.

Water pollution, meanwhile, leads to diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio. Common pollutants of water pollution include Industrial Waste, Marine Dumping, Sewage and Wastewater, Oil Leaks and Spills, Agriculture, and Global Warming, and Radioactive waste.

Soil pollution, in fact, gives rise to diseases such as headaches, coughing, chest pain, nausea, and skin or eye irritation. Studies have also proven that prolonged exposure to contaminated soil can lead to depression of the central nervous system and damage to vital organs. Much like water pollutants, common air pollutants are industrial wastes, agricultural wastes, nuclear wastes, mining and sewer sludge.

Each and every kind of pollution that I’ve mentioned are very dangerous to both ourselves and our environment. Let us take measures to prevent pollution!

Thank you.
