Guru Purnima celebrates the day that the seven rishis, who served as the Vedic prophets, received wisdom from the Adi Guru, or original guru, Lord Shiva. This day is extremely holy since it is thought that Lord Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath. Mahatma Gandhi restored this celebration to custom as he honored his master Shrimad Rajchandra.
A guru is a teacher who provides knowledge and wisdom to their followers. This event is known as Purnima and is observed on a full moon day. A full moon day honoring the knowledgeable gurus who guide us in discovering the core purpose of life is known as Guru Purnima. Gurus have a significant impact on a person’s life because they inspire and direct them in choosing their route in life.
On this day, people honor their spiritual leaders, mentors, instructors, and even parents, who are seen as the first guru at home and the source of a child’s very first education. Guru Ved Vyas, the author of the epic Mahabharata, is thought to have been born on Guru Purnima. Consequently, this day is also known as Vyasa Purnima.
