A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of literacy.
Google defines the term literacy to be “the ability to read and write.” In relation to this, it also means “competence or knowledge in a specified area.”
Literacy, in this sense, is very important in each and everyone’s life at an individual level. Literacy pertaining to the literacy rate of a nation is also important in the global context to assess its development.
Studies point out that in 2022, Canada is the most literate country in the world whereas Mali and Sudan have the lowest literacy rates. Compared to 2021, India’s literacy rate has improved to 77.7%.
Within India again, Kerala is considered to be the most literate state whereas Bihar is the most illiterate.
Literacy is ranked as thus because it is crucial for the economic level of a country and the empowerment of individuals. Today, literacy has become more essential for girls.
