Subject: Social Rules in my Country
Dear Sally,
Take my love and affection. I hope you are hale and hearty by the grace of God. I’m also well by his blessings. In your last letter you asked me to tell you about the social rules in our country since you are aware that every culture and country has vastly different societies and social rules. So, today I want to tell you all about the social rules in my country!
India has a variety of cultures and languages, each with its own rich traditions and heritage. This diversity is what makes India so amazing. People of different cultures coexist with each other in harmony and peace. However, we do have some social rules that are consistent through all cultures and states in India. One of them is being very respectful to your elders.
We always touch our elders’ feet when we meet them to show them our respect and gratitude. We also eat with our hands, something that is very shocking to many foreigners but perfectly normal to us. Leaving our shoes outside the house is another unspoken rule that often surprises many foreigners.
In places of worship one must never touch any altar or auspicious area with their feet since that is deemed disrespectful. While passing anything to anyone, it is preferable to use your right hand. These are some of the social rules I can list off the top of my head. I hope it helped you know more about my country! Do tell me about social rules in your country as well!
That’s all for today. Take care of your health and write to me whenever you have some time! I hope we can meet up soon!
Regards,
Leela D
