Respected Sir,
I am writing to inform you that I need to take a one day leave tomorrow as my family and I have been affected by the hurricane that hit our city last night. We have suffered some damage to our property and need to take a day off to attend to the necessary repairs.
I understand that this request is quite sudden and I apologize for any inconvenience caused. I assure you that I will try to make up for the lost day by working extra hard in the weeks to come. I would be grateful if you could grant me this leave.
