Hazrat Adi Bin Hatim who accepted Islam under the influence of Prophet Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim) narrated:
Once the group (lashkar) of Prophet Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim) captured my aunt (paternal) along with some other men. She was taken to ProphetMuhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim).
She said,”My care taker (i.e. me) is not here. I am an aged women thus I can’t do any manual work. Please have pity on me & free me.”
Prophet Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim) said,”Who is your care taker?”
She said,”Adi Bin Hatim (i.e. me).”
Prophet Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim) said,”The same person who runs away from Allah & His messenger?”
Saying this, he freed my aunt.
When my aunt came back, a person was accompanying her who was probably Hazrat Ali (r.a.).
She said to me,”The generousity of
Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim) has dimmed the generousity your father Hatim! One who goes to Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim), never returns empty handed.”
Hearing this I went to Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim). I saw that children, old women, all were sitting there. & he was talking to them in a great way.
Seeing me, Muhammad (sal allah ho alaihi wasallim) said,”O Adi! Why you run from reciting Kalma?
Can anybody be worshipped except Allah?
Why you turn your face from saying Allah ho Akbar? Is there anybody greater than Allah?”
His words had such a great impact on me that I at once accepted Islam!
