Future Indefinite Tense in English – Structure, Rules & Examples

In the previous unit, we discussed the Past Perfect Continuous Tense in detail. We assume that you have learned the forms of verbs and their meanings in this unit and are also aware of What is Tense. if not, please click these links and learn them first.

Before going ahead, we would like to remind you that Future Indefinite Tense is also known as Future Simple Tense. This tense tells about the action which will happen in the future i.e. coming time. e.g. you will take lunch or dinner after reading this article. So this action is in Future Indefinite Tense.

In Hindi and Urdu, Future Indefinite Tense ends with ga, ge, gi. e.g. mein tenses parhu ga, mein apna phone chalau ga etc.

We use shall/will and the First form or the Simple Form of Verb (e.g run, walk, read, eat, talk, etc).

Rule 1

In Future Indefinite Tense, we use “shall” with “I & We” and “first form” (simple form) of the verb. e.g.

Here are some more examples to help you understand this.

  1. I shall play Call of Duty after reading this article. (Ye article parhne k baad hum Call of Duty game khelein ge)
  2. We shall eat fry momos in the evening. (Hum sham ko fry momos khae ge)
  3. shall watch Season 2 of Family Man. (Mein Family Man ka Season 2 dekhu ga).
  4. We shall create a new group on WhatsApp. (Hum WhatsApp par naya group banae ge)

Rule 2

We use “will” with Name, He, She, It, You and They and “first form” (simple form) of the verb. e.g.

  1. You will eat Pizza (Ap Pizza khan ge)
  2. They will play PUBG. (Wo PUBG Khelein Ge)
  3. You will cook rice. (Ap khana banae ge)
  4. They will ask questions. (Wo sawaal poocheinj ge)
  5. He will buy a mature bag. (Wo mature bag khareede ga)
  6. She will make a Tiktok video. (Wo Tiktok video banae gi)
  7. It will rain cats and dogs. (bhut zor ki barish ho gi))
  8. They will sit(We bethein ge)
  9. You will cry(Ap ro ge)
  10. He will listen to songs on Coke Studio. (Wo Coke Studio par gaane sune ga)
  11. Dhinchak Pooja will sing a rap. (Dhinchak Pooja rap gae gi)

Rule 3

While forming questions in Past Continuous Tense, we bring shall and will before I/We/You/They/He/She/It/Name. e.g.

  1. Will Ranu Mondal sing a song? (Kya Ranu Mondal gana gae gi?
  2. Will he download the movie? (Kya Wo movies download kre ga?)
  3. Will she buy a new phone? (kya wo naya phone khareede gi)
  4. Will it rain here? (Kya yaha barish ho gi?)
  5. Will you cry? ( KyaAp ro ge?)
  6. Will they play PUBG? (Kya wo PUBG Khelein ge?)
  7. Shall watch Season 2 of Family Man? (Kya Mein Family Man ka Season 2 dekhu ga?).
  8. Shall we create a new group on WhatsApp? (Kya hum WhatsApp par naya group banae ge?)
