- Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam is the full name of A P J Abdul Kalam was born in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu.
- He was the 11th President of India. He was known as the People’s President.
- Abdul Kalam is known as Missile Man of India. He had played an important role in the Pokhran II nuclear test in 1998.
- The Government of India awarded him with the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1997.

- His birthday 15 October is celebrated as “Youth Renaissance Day” in Tamil Nadu.
- He has written many books. His autobiography “ Wings of Fire” is famous among students.

- Wheeler Island in Odisha is a missile testing facility is renamed as Abdul Kalam Island to honour him.
- On 15 July he died in Shillong while giving a lecture in IIM Shillong.
