- Guru Angad Dev Ji was born on 31 March 1504 in village Matte Di Sarai in Punjab, India.
- He was the second of the ten Sikh Gurus.
- He was given the name Lehna shortly after his birth.
- After the death of Guru Nanak in 1539, he led the Sikh tradition.
- He adopted and formalized the Gurmukhi alphabet.
- He improved literacy among the Sikhs and started a school at Khadur Sahib.
- He compiled the hymns of Guru Nanak and contributed 63 Saloks of his own.
- He introduced the idea of ‘Pangat’ – sitting in a line and eating in Sikhism.
- He made the teachings of Guru Nanak easily available to the common people in Gurmukhi.
- He left for heavenly abode at Khadur Sahib on March 29th, 1552.
